Independence Day @ Boston, Massachusetts Eric

BK took me out to a slip road to catch a ride and waited for me in the car, watching until I got a ride. Well, it's a good job he did as there was almost no traffic so he took me somewhere else where I quickly found a ride all the way to Boston with a nice Cabo Verdean man named Ivan. He was driving home to Boston after dropping his daughter in Providence. We chatted along the way and stopped for some breakfast  in a place called Victoria's diner once we reached Boston.

Blackstone eggs benedict, made with crispy smoked bacon, served with home fries.

It seems we chose the right place.

Ivan dropped me off at Jeremiah, BK's stepson's house where I would be staying for my first night in Boston. As it was Independence Day, I was keen to start exploring so off I went to downtown Boston. Boston has a nice narrow but cosy feeling about a lot of its roads, which I presume to be descended from its large influx of Irish immigrants. I took a look around before heading to the Esplanade, a large park area, where the Independence Day official celebrations were taking place. My bag wasn't allowed in to begin with, as it was a backpack. After I removed the straps on my nifty bag, it was allowed in. The EXACT SAME CONTENTS. Once inside, I found a little patch of grass, plonked myself down and watched the army band do their tooting and honking.

My next stop was Old North Church to listen to a reading of the Declaration of Independence. There I was seated in my pew and as silence fell, my phone starting ringing. I hate to be that person and hoped nobody would notice I was English too, although they were probably already playing 'Gay or European?' considering the way I dress.

I wandered around the old part of town for a bit longer and finally stopped in a nice little divey gay bar. They were also all up on the Independence Day fun with their straw selections. Dive bars are one of the things I love about America. There's nothing better than a place with dim lights, sticky floors and cheap, strong drinks.

I got chatting with a man next to me who boasted about his celebrity friends and he started arguing with me after I informed him that no, that Shakira song wasn't sampled from that other song. He was very unpleasant. He excused himself for a cigarette and I took the opportunity to ditch him and find new friends. I did just that and sat with Eric and Leonardo. They were lovely guys and after chatting for a while, they invited me to join them for a walk around Boston and to see the July 4th fireworks back at the Esplanade that evening.

Getting all flirty gerty with Science.
After the walk around, we went back to their apartment where more strong drinks were consumed.

Concocting something.
We popped down to the Esplanade to see the fireworks and, boy oh boy, were they good! I was quite taken by the cuteness of this little girl watching them from her father's shoulders that I had to take a picture. There aren't many good photos from the evening as all the vodka caught up with me and they're all blurry.

After the display, we went to a nightclub and instead of going back to Jeremiah's that night, I just woke up on Eric and Leonardo's couch instead. Woops!

Thanks for reading,

Dan
