The Highline - New York City

The Highline is a mile and a half long park that runs through the West Side of New York City. What makes this park unique and special is that it is built on a disused freight railway track, making it a nice way of getting around in the city.

Because it is elevated from the street, you can get some really nice views of the city. It was elevated from the street as when it was on street level, there were so many accidents that it was nicknamed 'Death Avenue'. The railway was shut down and demolished after shipment of goods to and from warehouses became less popular. It's history consists basically of some people wanting to rip it down, and other people wanting to keep it up. Luckily, restoration projects made it what it is today, with the Highline growing since it's opening.

I spent a nice afternoon walking through the park. It's easy to follow but as soon as I left it I was lost, as I often am.

If you're interested in early morning tai chi, this is one of the places you can do just that!

Happy Travels,

Dan
